"Reciprocal writing" refers to writing for creating a "give and take" relationship.

When I'm doing fieldwork, I always feel indebted to people who I met and were willing to share their stories. They provide me with invaluable research data, which makes me feel obliged to write something for them as a return (usually in a language that they're most comfortable with). Well, it's what Mauss would call "gift-giving" between researchers and informants.

Reciprocal writing is also part of my public writing project. I think it is a pity that researchers/scholars only write for academia and never reach out to the public. The production of knowledge, as I take a Marxist stance, is to "inform and change the world".
